If you ABSOLUTELY INSIST, we will charge you a fuel surcharge for highway services –
But we don’t want to, and, unless you will accept $Zero, a Fuel Surcharge really does not fit well with our Fair Price promise.
On rare occasions, we have a customer that insists that we charge them a fuel surcharge!
It seems that people can become so programmed to expect that a fuel surcharge will be added to every transportation price, that they have in turn programmed their computers to require a fuel surcharge entry. If you don’t have a fuel surcharge, then you don’t fit in. Worse, they might not be able to process your invoice.
Well, Copper Run can fit in, especially if it helps get our invoice paid! When asked, are proud to say that our highway fuel surcharge is zero. We put that on our quotes. We really mean it – zero.
However, unfortunately sometimes a customer insists on a non-zero fuel surcharge. Usually, what they really mean is that they require that we charge them according to their own fuel surcharge program, as set by their own fuel surcharge formula, designed to protect them against unreasonably high fuel surcharges. $Zero is not unreasonably high – but in this scenario it turns out that it is unreasonably low.
But Copper Run will try to fit in. Grudgingly. What we do is we calculate our Fair Price, and then we back out the fuel surcharge using the customer’s formula and recently published fuel prices. So at the end of the day, the customer still pays only our Fair Price.
